ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR (OB)
The OB Division invites creative and engaging proposals for interactive Professional Development Workshops (PDWs) for the 2022 Annual Meeting. The OB Division’s PDWs will run throughout the duration of the conference, from Friday, August 5 to Tuesday, August 9, with virtual PDWs also taking place on Thursday, August 4 and Wednesday, August 10.
PDWs by their very nature should be developmental and enhance and advance members of the Academy. These workshops should also be inclusive, reaching across professional or social boundaries to foster opportunities and growth for a diverse set of participants. We invite organizers to consider the broad membership of the OB division and to develop PDWs that serve a wide range of members.
Successful PDWs are often provocative, evoking strong reactions from participants and energizing attendees to be involved in the session. Such sessions also generate enthusiasm that translates into preparation for the session and deliberate follow up after the curtains have closed. Organizers have substantial latitude over the format, processes, timing, and other characteristics of the PDW. We applaud innovation that serves to strengthen the development and learning of the members of the division and the Academy, rather than innovation for its own sake. We encourage organizers to think outside the bounds of the traditional scholarly program, and instead provide an experience that is unique to PDWs.
We are particularly interested in sponsoring PDWs that address the OB division’s priorities of enhancing rigor, relevance, and relationships. We likewise encourage you to consider, but not limit yourself to, either the conference theme, Creating a Better World Together. We also welcome interdisciplinary submissions that can be co-sponsored by other divisions.
We will give priority to proposals that: (a) are truly a professional workshop comprising some interactive or skill-development component that is distinct from the scholarly program of the conference, and that take a particular focus on community building; (b) do not duplicate existing OB-sponsored PDWs or another submitted PDW (if the latter, then the sponsors may be contacted to see if coordination is possible); (c) are creative and intellectually stimulating; and (d) are likely to appeal to a broad range of members (e.g., across different career stages, nationalities, roles). PDWs that focus on research topics (i.e., panels, interactive symposia) may be more suited to submission to the scholarly program.
The conference will be in a hybrid format. PDWs may run in-person or virtually (both asynchronously and synchronously), and some may even be hybrid (in person, with live-streaming). Submitters should provide a detailed description of how they will facilitate the PDW in a hybrid format. In doing so, note that the PDW may extend beyond the temporal bounds of the conference, with pre-work or interaction prior to the conference, and continuing engagement following the conference. Again, we invite organizers to be innovative and make full use of the delivery options available in the hybrid format, with the aim of enhancing the development of division members.
