Moderated by the adjacent Puget Sound, Seattle’s climate is temperate, making extreme heat and cold very rare occurrences. With cool, wet winters and mild, relatively dry summers, the weather in Seattle is almost always appropriate for outdoor activity. Frequent storms moving in from the adjacent Pacific Ocean give the city its reputation for frequent clouds and rain, though Seattle often experiences little more than a light drizzle.
